Landscape
Balussery Grama Panchayat receives rainfall above the state average. Although there are no significant mountains within the panchayat, it does feature some hills and elevated areas. The Manjappuzha River and its tributaries—small streams—serve as the primary water sources. Streams in the area no longer flow throughout the year. Much of the panchayat's terrain consists of red soil mixed with gravel. At one time, the region boasted abundant paddy cultivation and served as an effective water catchment area; however, most of the numerous paddy fields that once existed have since been reclaimed. The soil in these fields is generally a mixture of sand and clay. Today, one can see both abandoned and active granite quarries in the locality. This points to a past when we possessed abundant reserves of laterite and granite. Their over-exploitation led to the destruction of many water sources. Apart from a few sacred groves, there are no forest areas in our panchayat.
